On the 20th of December 2023, the Marginalized Organic Producers Association orchestrated a groundbreaking Women Leadership Empowerment Program, focused on empowering women elders to effectively represent the social entity. This transformative initiative, organized and coordinated by Mrs. Nayana Karunarathne, brought together 50 participants from four regions—Central, Uva, Wayaba, and Southern.
Under the esteemed leadership of the organization’s General Secretary, and with the invaluable guidance of trainer Mr. Upali Gamage, the program aimed to equip women elders with the necessary skills and confidence to play a pivotal role in representing their communities. The event also featured a special invitee, Mrs. Iresha Sanjawani, Asia-Pacific Member of the Standards & Oversight Committees at Fairtrade International and Program Consultant for Sri Lanka at Fairtrade NAPP, whose expertise enriched the experience for all participants.
The program delved into crucial aspects of gender policy, with Ms. Shehani Madhushika Herath, Administrative and Fairtrade Compliance Assistance, leading discussions to explain and develop gender policies in collaboration with the participants. This emphasis on gender policy underscores the organization’s commitment to creating an inclusive and equitable environment, where every voice is not only heard but actively shapes the organization’s future.
The Marginalized Organic Producers Association extends its deepest appreciation to all participants, trainers, and special invitees for their contributions to this transformative event. This program stands as a testament to our unwavering dedication to fostering gender-inclusive leadership and promoting the active involvement of women in decision-making processes.
